Remember how a while back it was revealed that Volkswagen had lied to the world for years about the emissions from their diesel cars? Yeah, I think it's safe to say that many who purchased a VW or every thought about one will never forget. Looks like VW is now trying to put a band-aid on the the wound to its credibility by offering $1,000 in gift cards and other incentives to customers who were affected by the scandal. This is in addition to the $500 dealership credit that they have already promised. VW will offer over 482,000 affected customers a $500 Visa gift card that can be used anywhere and three years of free roadside assistance. This deal has been extended to Audi customers as well who were also stuck in the middle of the whole mess.
Owners will need to visit Volkswagen "Goodwill Package" website in order to take them up on the offer. The package is estimated to be delivered within a month for anyone who signs up on the website. Volkswagen has already started offering people $2,000 in trade-in credit for their vehicles. If we do the math and add everything up, the total amount that Volkswagen is offering is $3,000. I'm not sure if that will be enough to salvage their reputation.
